Snip, Snip
I’m just a beginner sewer. I may have mentioned my noobness before…but when I start projects I get this anxiety. It usually happens just before I cut my material out because once you cut it, it’s done and there’s no going back .
So after a week of hemming (ha ha sewing pun) and hawing I finally bit the bullet and measured and cut my sister’s present. And after all that worrying…yes it was fine.
There’s a fabric store in the next city that was going out of business and I snagged a quilting ruler which has really helped me make some straight cuts…plus it was on SALE! Huzzah.
I have started sewing her present and I just have to be patient. I have a real problem with just bulldozing ahead and making really small and annoying mistakes. That usually happens when I start to get cocky about my skillz and blindly sew until the next step when I realize what I’ve done.
I love sewing…really! LOL

The Heat Is On
Well, after a few days of beautiful breezy spring days summer will be coming this Friday. It’s supposed to be a very uncomfortable 32 degrees Celsius. This sudden change in weather has us contemplating how we’re going to stay cool without having to constantly rely on our air conditioner.
There are tips to be found all over the Internet and most are very much common sense. Save turning on your high heat appliances (stove, oven, dishwasher, dryer) until the evening. Use fans, keep the sun out, do less. One of the most interesting one I’m reading about is low e window film. We’ll be looking at Home Depot for some today. They only carry two brands, 3M and GILA…if you’ve got any experience with those brands feel free to drop me a line. I’ll be letting everyone know how it goes. The film is supposed to cut down on UV and heat getting into the house in the summer and in the winter it’s supposed to keep the heat in. There’s some scientific mumbo jumbo about how it works but we all know that it works by magic.
Our next mission in our energy saving will be to install a laundry line in the yard. This should be interesting with the dogs. I can easily see Flash hanging by his teeth on a pair of pants…I promise to post pictures if I catch him. The one thing I can’t stand about line drying is how crunchy and stiff everything gets and I’m not really sure how to combat that.
Our planter is still very, very slowly coming along. We need more gravel, fun and Scott is going to order soil for this weekend. And then FINALLY we’ll be able to plant. This week is also our first week of co-op organic food share. I’m really excited about trying all sorts of new veggies. This week we’re supposed to be getting Kale…I’ve never had it before and it will be fun to figure out how I’m supposed to cook this stuff.

Kissy, Kissy
Merlin has been known to pass gas occasionally…okay, like everyday. So here I am sitting ever so innocently watching Play With Me Sesame and waiting for MC’s afternoon munchies to kick in. Merlin jumps up to sit beside me and not so noiselessly passes his daily fart. MC felt the need to respond to this wondrous noise…with what you say? His own fart noise? A raspberry?
Oh no, nothing that mundane. The boy copies Merlin with kissy noises.
All this time I thought that Merlin was just doing what dogs do, but MC has shown me that this is the way dogs blow kisses.

After I Cleaned Up Poo
I realized that most of my morning activities are buffered by that phrase. After I clean up cat poo I’ll sit down with MC for a bit. After I clean up MC poo, I’ll go clean the poo he leaked onto the bathroom counter. After I clean up the leaked poo, I’ll put laundry away. After I clean up dog poo, I’ll water the grass.
See what I mean. Poo. I’m surrounded.

Catch Up
Sorry for the delay in posting. I’m trying to get caught up on housework and do some small projects around the house. Today I put together a shower caddy (I got mine at my favourite organzing store Solutions) for our bathroom, hoping to clear up some of the clutter around the edges of the tub. What on earth do people do for their shampoo et al? I tried one of those over the shower head caddies once but I hated it. Hopefully this one is okay with Scott…
Bought a new three towel rack for our bathroom as well…also from Solutions. I could spend so much money at that store…sigh.
I don’t think I’ll ever get caught up on dishes, it always seems that no matter how hard I work at getting it done I turn around and there’s more dishes that have been left for me. So I’m taking a few days off…no dishes for me this week.
Tomorrow I’m going to post pics of our new caddy, the towel rack (if I get it up today), my new window treatment (with FRINGE!) and I’ve got some swatches of paint and fabric for the kitchen.
Now since MC slept in until 10:30 today he’s completely off of his schedule and I have no idea what I’m going to do with him today…routine wise. And I think he just yawned…I love teething!
