Don’t Call Us, We’ll Call You

Posted in Random Thoughts tagged , at 12:45 pm by momnibus

It’s September 30th, do you know where your telemarketers are?

Today is the much anticipated release of the Canadian Do Not Call List!  I’m so tired of having to listen to prerecorded messages from Ann and the moving company, my free trips and whatever other things people are trying to sell me.  So today it ends!

Are you tired of it too?  You can sign up here.  As of 8:40am this morning the site isn’t ready to put you on the list, but I do plan on checking again later.

Edit:  The site is ready and amusingly I’ve already had my first telemarketer of the day.

Busy, Busy, Busy

Posted in Random Thoughts, The Boy tagged , , at 6:07 pm by momnibus

What a busy weekend!  Friday night I went shopping for clothes for MC and myself for Sunday dinner.  We were pretty successful and I bought a nice outfit for myself..  Luckily I’ll be wearing that when Scott and I go out for anniversary dinner…even though our anniversary is today we knew we’d be too busy this weekend to enjoy a nice relaxing dinner so we postponed until this Friday.

Saturday we went to the organic farm we have a food share with.  They invited everyone out to the farm for a bbq.  Food was good and MC had loads of fun walking around the very, very long driveway.  There were some puppies and a meow there.  MC saw for the very first time…some chickens.  Which he promptly decided were ducks, not chickens…I figured that was close enough.  We left as the mosquitoes came out looking to dine.

Sunday we had dinner at the club.  That was after the mother of all tantrums, not sure why changing his clothes set him off but it did.  After a sweaty struggle I left him in pants and his shirt and we waited to put his shoes and socks on.  Phase 1 complete…in car…driving…with a good chance we’d be on time.   We parked and Scott and I each took a foot to sock and shoe…MC decided not so much, thanks anyway.  Phase 2 incomplete and no longer caring.  MC was now in a bad, bad mood.  He was probably hungry and he wasn’t very sociable when everyone arrived.  He did actually start to eat the bread that came, after refusing the multitude of snacks we brought with us…funny guy eh.  After getting some food he was finally able to sit in his chair and do a little chatting.  Phase 3 complete.

Once he ate his dinner he decided that he was DONE…FINISHED…LET’S GO!  So rather than disturbing everyone else we opted to leave before he had another melt down.

Ugh.  This is why we don’t take him to sit down places to eat.  Stressful.

Clubbing

Posted in Random Thoughts tagged , at 6:12 pm by momnibus

This Sunday we’re celebrating my grandma’s birthday and Julie’s birthday at my dad’s golf club.  Having been informed of the dress code we went to the club’s website to have a look….

  • In general, “Smart Casual”
  • No denim of any colour or description
  • Shirts must have collars and be worn neatly, mock turtle or turtle neck accepted.  Men and boys shirts must be tucked in.
  •  Golf related logos only on all garments
  • Caps/hats may not be worn backwards
  • Soft spikes must be worn on the course
  • Golf sandals are permitted provided socks are worn
  • No spandex
  • No rugger, cargo, track suit or other un-tailored pants or shorts
  • Golf shorts are permitted provided that they shall be tailored and knee length (Bermuda length) and that the socks are: knee length OR ankle length OR low cut sockettes
  • NOTE: Socks cannot be rolled down to conform and mid-calf sport socks are unacceptable

This means that I need to go shopping.  I’m guessing “logos” would include any and all trucks, cars, dinosaurs and sports shirts….not that he could wear a t-shirt anyway.  I don’t have any collared shirts for him either since we don’t have reason to wear that kind of shirt.  And then the pants…I’m now petrified about picking the “wrong pants”, I don’t even know what rugger pants are.  Of course the rest of his pants are cargo pants or jeans.  Scott will need a sports jacket…and whatever else the list calls for because he dresses casual at work.  At least I have a skirt, I just need a shirt and shoes.

Hopefully I can find a sale somewhere so I don’t have to spend a lot of money.  Please, please, please let there be a sale somewhere.

Pondering a Change

Posted in Random Thoughts tagged , at 7:25 pm by momnibus

Spending most of my day in the play room/office has left me with ample time to ponder some changes….my husband LOVES when I come up with this stuff.

We have a wall of bookcases…with surprisingly…a lot of books and other assorted crap on it.  The bottom two shelves are for MC’s toys but the rest is all grown up stuff.  We have 3 billy bookcases from IKEA and a matching corner unit.  I am beginning to really hate that corner unit, it doesn’t hold a lot and it’s really just for knick knacky type things, in a houseful of cats and a grabby toddler those knick knacks really need to go behind glass.  So first change….the corner unit has GOT to go!

And then I started pondering moving the book shelves to the other side of the room, which would mean switching places with the desk and assorted computer gear.  Scott’s face as I pondered this aloud was the classic oh-god-no face that he usually gets when I decide to shake things up.  Now normally I can move the furniture around myself….he just comes home to a completely repositioned room…I know how much he LOVES it when I do that.

So, if I take everything out of the shelves do you think he’ll move them?  Maybe I’ll do that tomorrow….which will be when he reads this entry.  And then after I clear the shelves (did you hear that hiss…that was the steam coming out of Scott’s ears) I will unplug all of the computer type stuff (did you hear a pop?  That was Scott’s head as he is at work having palpitations that I will touch the computer types stuff) and then try to move the shelves.  Now seeing that I won’t be able to actually move them I will leave it like that until Scott gets home and he can help me.  After he helps me move the shelves he can figure out what the heck I did to his computer type things.

More Veil Work

Posted in Bellydancing tagged , at 7:00 pm by momnibus

We learned a bit more of our choreography last night…just a little…because I think most people (including myself) didn’t practice.  So it was a mess.  A chiffon explosion…craziness.

I’m still getting tangled up in my veil.  I tried a braid last night and I think it was better than the pony tail.  I also kept screwing my veil up, not quite sure how but it kept getting twisted and skewed before I even started dancing.

Joharah said in class that were learning to transition between our combinations as we’re used to drilling the basic moves over and over with no change.  I am guessing that the more I practice, the faster everything will fall into place.

Hangin’ Tough…Still

Posted in Random Thoughts tagged , , at 8:05 pm by momnibus

Ah yes, it was finally time for my NKOTB concert!  What a blast we had…and they still have it…most of it.

I should have realized that it was going to be a huge blast from the past when I saw the swarms of women on the train on the way to Toronto…I’m surprised that the few men on the train managed to fight their way through the wall of estrogen!

Christine and I had a great dinner before heading off to the ACC for the third and final New Kids concert in Toronto.  Fabulous time was had by all, as evidenced by the piercing screams and insane amount of energy flowing.  They played pretty much all of the old songs that they should have, and a couple of new ones.  My favourite song had to have been Jordan….still yummy….white shirt……………fan……………….

What was I saying?  Right, great concert.  We were also lucky enough to have Natasha Beddingfield (hope I spelled that right) as the opening act, she was incredible and I think I’ll need to snag her CD.

I am however on day two of losing my voice.  I might have screamed a little, just a little.

Since It’s In My Head Now…

I thought you might enjoy it too.  Not sure why I like this commercial so much…but I do!  I have to say I like the Canadian version even more than the US one I’ve seen online.

It’s Coming, Are You Ready?

Posted in Organizing tagged , at 7:32 pm by momnibus

That time of year when you swear it will be different this time…that you’ll be organized…that you will get everything perfect.  CHRISTMAS!

Yes, I went there.  Are you afraid?

I’ve tried a couple of ways to get organized for Christmas, doing nothing but making a gift list and of course Flylady.  I stumbled across this post on HDMac’s Crafty blog about 100 Days to Christmas.  So I went strolling on over there to see if this could be a help to me.  I think any site that allows you to have a little accountability by joining forces with other people.  A little bit of keeping up with the Jones’ if you will.

Now I have a little catching up to do.  I need to print out some calendar pages (Oct-Dec) and finish my gift list.

Now doesn’t that give you a nice dose of Christmas cheer?

I’m A Princess

Posted in Bellydancing tagged , , at 6:34 pm by momnibus

No really, I am…I’ve got the song, choreography and veil and everything.

Okay, maybe not all of the choreography…more like 45 seconds.  I had my first term class last night and I was so excited to be learning to dance with a veil.  I had visions of my elegant self floating about with my veil swirling pleasantly around me.  The reality…not so much.

The veil kept getting caught up in my hair, which I’m guessing is why you’re supposed to keep it away from your body.  Difficult when you’re doing an “egg beater” with the thing.  I kept getting tangled in Kate’s veil, which I’m sure she loved me for.

Now I have to figure out where the heck in this house of dogs and cats I’m supposed to practice.  Not quite sure what to do there.

I will be accepting any and all veil tips…as well as practice tips….and hair tips….what hairstyle can one wear so not to get tangled in it!?!?

Getting a Handle On It

Posted in Decorating tagged , at 6:59 pm by momnibus

With all the decluttering I completely forgot about the new handles we bought for the kitchen cupboards.  I remembered them today because I was noticing how nice they looked and how much better it would look if I actually finished putting the last 10 handles in.

So here’s the easiest way to give yourself a bit of a lift in the kitchen….not cheap, I didn’t say cheap…I said EASY.  Here’s what we started with…

Old and Cheap

Those are probably the cheapest ones available, that would be the joy of living in a mass produced residential community.  They also weren’t really our style anymore.  So we decided to go with….

New and Not So Cheap

A touch more modern and definitely feels sturdier.  At $5 per handle and 26 handles needed a small touch in the kitchen definitely adds up but totally worth it.

Now if I could just get the darn kitchen painted by those handy little elves that make shoes I’d be all set!
