Aaaaaaall Aboard!

Posted in Random Thoughts, The Boy, family tagged , , , at 11:10 pm by momnibus

You know those days when everything just seems to go so well?  Ours started out this way, full of promise and hope!  Our plans today were simple, take the boy to the Halton County Radial Railway.  They are a wonderful train museum that has several trains available for short runs around the museum grounds.  Fantastic.  Perfect for our little train lover.

Our Ride

Our Ride

Right.  Perfect.  Maybe for looking at, but from the floppy boy laying on his dad’s shoulder, riding a train isn’t that great.  Off we get.

Lunch was in a great picnic area with a nice view of a different street car.

Nice Ride!

After a quick lunch a certain little boy perked up considerably and found great amusement in going up and down the wheelchair access ramp…over and over.

And then we found BARN 3.  That is where they keep their restored cars and other types of trains.  MC had fun sitting on the old fashioned street car and then walking up and down the aisles.

Tickets...Tickets

Tickets...Tickets

In the gift shop we found a wonderful assortment of Thomas stuff so we bought Molly to add to our collection.  Welcome home Molly!

And then we left….sounds fine so far huh.  We left around 1pm so that we could get MC to his nap on time.  This would allow us to be able to go the The Ex tonight and MC could spend some time with his grandparents.  That was the plan.

We didn’t leave at 1pm…a bit later…not bad though…on with our grand plan.  That plan did not include a flat tire 10 minutes into our car ride home.  So we called CAA and a very nice guy came about half an hour later to change our tire.

Patiently Waiting

Patiently Waiting

If you’re keeping track…we’re now hitting about 2pm.  And we still had another 30-40 minutes to go.  If we drove fast, which we didn’t because we have one of those donut tires on the car.  Bah.  We got home just before 3pm.  MC was put to bed shortly at 3:15 and finally, FINALLY fell asleep around 3:50.

He is still sleeping.  Sadly we’ll be waking the cranky man at 6:30.  *sigh*  So we opted to stay home rather than leave cranky man with his grandparents.  We’re nice that way.

In spite of all my complaining…it really was a great visit to the train museum!  We’ll be sure to go back again!

Just In Case

Posted in Organizing tagged , at 5:59 pm by momnibus

Ah yes, the biggest challenge to decluttering.  We may need something just in case.  Want to see what I found that we kept just in case?

Just In Case

Just In Case

Perfect.   I’ve got a couple of laundry detergent bottles that were empty so we won’t count those in our just in case list.

  • 2 Large Bottles of Fantastik
  • Pet Stain Remover (almost empty)
  • Ceramic Floor cleaner
  • Travel bottle of laundry detergent
  • Empty bottle of dish detergent
  • Empty margarine tub

Rest easy, that’s Merlin and he’s a keeper.  Just to give you an idea of how long these were kept…and this is kind of gross…

Dust In Case

Dust In Case

That particular bottle was bought when we first moved in.  I have since moved onto more natural cleaning mixtures and the neon yellow that came tumbling out was kind of gross.  That’s one nice layer of dust on there.  So we kept it just in case……of emergency floor cleaning??  I don’t know.

And this is where that all came from…

Before

Before

Love those basement laundry rooms….so cheerful.

After

After

Still not cheerful, but at least it has less crap in it.  And yes, the two Aussie butts are staying too.

I also decluttered 3 cups of coffee this morning, but somehow I don’t think that is what this challenge is about!

There’s still time to join in!

Special thanks to Flash, Merlin and Zoe who were extra helpful in examining the outgoing bottles.  Cookies for all!

Baaaa

Not feeling too hot today.  Could be the lack of sleep.  I hope that’s all it is and that I’m not getting sick.

Flash started peeing in his crate at 4 something this morning.  He’s never done that before.  And Merlin threw up in his crate at some point and got barf all over his butt.  So we now have one pee pee smelling dog, one barf smelling dog, and Zoe is perfect as usual.

Still decluttering, I’ll post pictures on Friday.  In the meantime here’s something fun for you.  A fantastic little time waster.  Today there was an intruder *gasp*

Behold…  LambWatch!  From their About page…

Where is it?

The camera is situated at Marlfield Farmand spends most its time overlooking a field known as “the House Meadow”; a field that slopes down to the valley bottom where it meets a small stream which flows into the village. During the day, the camera points west, meaning that you could catch some really nice sunsets during the Summer months. The camera is currently fixed to a tree trunk and can be rotated through 180 degrees to cover other fields including “the Rushy Field” and a garden close to the farmhouse. We sometimes put a sheep into the garden when we need to keep a close eye on it which could be for various reasons such as a difficult birth resulting in the mother being very ill and requiring treatment and attention. The garden is a bit like an “intensive care” unit and we will be focussing the camera on that if it ever gets occupied.

What am I likely to see?

As well as lambs and sheep, you could also spot our free-range hens pottering around in the grass as well as pheasants, birds and squirrels! When there is not much happening, there is usually a blue tit or two on the nut feeder to keep you entertained! Keep your eyes peeled for the woodpecker which visits the feeder from time to time on a daily basis! It’s great to receive messages of “sightings”from our viewers when they spot something of interest on the webcam.

From time to time we will be featuring “events” which will be posted on our eventspage. An event is a something which could be of particular interest on the webcam such as the trimming of a sheep’s hooves to cure lameness or the feeding of the animals. Keep an eye on the cam at other times though because not all events are listed on our schedule. Often the most interesting events will not be scheduled, such as the birth of a lamb! We really want to capture the birth of a lamb on the webcam so watch this space!

Rolled Up

I had a very productive day today.  After practicing my meagre sewing skills making cloth wipes for MC I have finally graduated to an actual project!!

Ready for Travel

Ready for Travel

Do you know what it is?  I’ll give you a big hint…here’s the inside…

Ready for Creating

Ready for Creating

A crayon roll!  Made by me!!  Not perfect but it came out pretty good if I do say so myself.  If you want to make your own I found two different patterns….one here and one here.   I had to come up with my own measurements because they used the skinny crayons and we’re not quite at that stage yet.

Enjoy making it…I did…and I only swore once.  And I didn’t even bleed!

A Good Day for Catkind

Posted in Cleaning, cats tagged , , at 6:44 pm by momnibus

Maca has been checked out and her mouth is healing up nicely except for one reddish spot.  Since she is currently eating fine we’re just going to keep an eye on her.  Based on her improvement there is no need for her to have medication right now.  The vet said it looked like all of sutures had dissolved like they were supposed to and he noticed how great she looked right away!  So YAY MACA!!  What a huge relief!

Today I decluttered a kitty cat welcome sign.  I’ve noticed that because I have cats I tend to get a lot of cat related items…statues, candle holders, t-shirts….but very few dog related things…but I’m not complaining!

I don’t know if this counts as “decluttering” or overcoming the procrastination hurdle but I finally cleaned up the sticky residue left over from our 3M General Carpet Tape.  We had a small rug by the back door and to stop it from constantly being shot across the room by overzealous dogs we found this great tape.  And then we found out that the ants and discovered some crumbs underneath that small carpet in spite of it being vacuumed…so out it came, leaving that sticky stuff behind.  I will say that Goo Gone is fantastic stuff, what I thought was going to be a long labour of scraping and picking turned into a light scrape, a quick wipe and I was done.  Fantastic stuff!  Smells good too, like oranges.

Going Down Under

Posted in Organizing tagged , , at 7:10 pm by momnibus

I think I’ve done more than my 7 items for the week, and that’s a good thing.  Hopefully I can continue to keep up the pace.

Today I cleared out the cupboard under the sink.  I think that it’s okay, I’m not really sure what to do with it.  It seems like such a waste of space.  There’s got to be a solution to that somewhere…hopefully a cheap one.

So there it is, I’m sure it could be better…and yes those are glass milk bottles.  We need to doa bottle return run at our next grocery shopping trip.  And what left today…bunch of junk!  Some headed for the trash and others to be donated.
Random Junk

Random Junk

My friend Kate came over yesterday and we had a 3 hour knit/crochet marathon!  I managed to finish my sister’s dish cloth…well start and finish.
Tada!!

Tada!!

Just a simple single crochet dishcloth.  I didn’t really follow a pattern or count my stitches, it’s easier to eyeball it.  I did start with a full ball of cotton yarn though.  One thing I do like to add at the end is a single chain loop for hanging.  Best easy project when I get frustrated with a difficult crochet project.
And Kate also helped me get rid of something…I remembered to snag a picture before she left with it…
In the Bag

In the Bag

It’s our blender.  We haven’t touched it in years and there’s nothing wrong with it so someone else might as well enjoy it.  Besides I’ve got my Magic Bullet!

What’s leaving your house today?

Busy, Busy

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , at 10:43 pm by momnibus

Not much on the decluttering front…one frayed, dirty, smell, torn dog toy.  I’m really glad we held onto that, I’ll spare you from the photo.  That one can go in the garbage as I can’t think of a single dog who could make further use of it.  Most everything else that is going is able to be donated…as soon as I get it there.

Bellydancing tonight!  There aren’t many classes left before the summer session is over and I’m looking forward to my fall Term class.  The classes are over an hour long and the class size is small.  I’m excited because we’re going to be learning choreography with a veil!!  I’ve also bought some new workout wear for class…I’ve decluttered enough to make room…I think.

Spoonfuls of Sugar

Posted in Organizing tagged , , , at 7:09 pm by momnibus

That’s what is supposed to make the medicine go down easier right?  Well so does a trip to Solutions to pick up organizing tools.  I bought a drawer seperator with my birthday gift certificate (well two actually, but today we’re looking at one) and finlly dug in to the drawer that was such a jumble of metal and plastic I couldn’t make heads nor tails of it.  See if you can…I swear finding stuff in there is like trying to find Waldo.
Before

Before

Ugh…what a mess.  And yes that is the stuff IN the drawer…nice eh.  So let’s see what a little divide and conquer can do.

Divided

Divided

Ahhh so easy to find what I need now.  If I can just get MC to leave it alone that is.  I suspect however there will be in influx of wandering spoons.

Conquered

Conquered

And here’s a few things that are out of the kitchen and into someone else’s.  I mean really, how many slotted flippers, spatulas and cheese graters do we need?  Don’t panic we’ve still got plenty!  Buh Bye

Waiting …. Room …

Posted in The Boy tagged , , at 8:40 pm by momnibus

Ugh.  MC’s vaccines were today.   We’re late as we couldn’t get an appointment when he was a year because our doctor had been quite ill.  So after waiting for an hour we know now that he is growing well and developmentally is coming along just fine.

And then they poked him with sharp things.  At least I didn’t cry this time.  He was quite a trooper after waiting in the waiting room for over an hour and survived his exam quite well.  Poor kid.

So no decluttering for me today.  I will be making it up tomorrow.
