It’s A Crichton Kind of Week
At our last family get together my aunt threw a book at me…okay…tossed…semantics. A novel by Michael Crichton called State of Fear. I believe she mentioned it would blow my mind or freak me out…something like that anyway. I finally had the chance Saturday night to read it. I’m one of those people who starts reading a book and I have this insane need to finish it without having to put it down, so technically I finished it on Sunday morning (4am). It’s basic premise is the argument against global warming. And really, it didn’t freak me out or anything. When I make “green” choices for my family global warming isn’t the reason for the choice, it’s much more selfish than that. There is some great information in there, a great book to pick up. Well paced and I’m sure well researched.
Then later in the week I met another Crichton creation. A made for TV movie on A&E that was based on another of his novels, The Andromeda Strain. There was an attempt at some marketing via a fake blog, a very, very fake blog complete with audio. However fake it was I went, I made the link to the movie and I made a point of watching the movie. Score one for marketing.
The movie itself was very enjoyable. They don’t wait long before hitting you full on with the action. I liked the group of actors (Rick Schroder cute as always) they all seemed to fit together nicely. If you have a chance to see it in repeats I would go for it. Short version with no spoilers…big bad virus out to get the human race. Guess what happens? Go on, guess. Now I need to get that stupid book to see how much better the book is.

I thought about watching “The Andromeda Strain”, but ended up reading instead. And chatting.
I’ve only read 2 of Micheal Crichton’s books: “Jurassic Park” (no surprise there) and “Prey”. They’re pretty good too. ^_^
I hope they replay that movie on A&E, I’m sure they will since, hey, it’s A&E right?
Doesn’t hurt that Rick Schroder’s in it either. Love the whole idea of a big bad virus, but it’d be interesting if someone wrote about a little tiny virus that no one thinks is a big deal..til WHAM..it ends up being a ruse, it’s actually deadly (or something equally plot provoking). I’m sure that’s been done though.
OK…I’ve rambled enough.
We need to go book shopping soon…
